This course is designed to help you understand how your camera works, teach you a set of tools in building artful composition,
and start you on your way to becoming a skilled amatuer photographer.
Class Overview:
We will meet in a park with cameras in hand. Class will start with people introducing themselves and telling a bit about
where they are at in becoming a better photographer and what kinds of things they want to be able to do with photography.
Course packets will be handed out and we will start on the assignments in the packet. You will work at your own pace and I
will take turns assisting everyone in their progress. No one is expected to finish the material during class time. You will finish
the material on your own, email me your results and questions, and post your favorites for critique on our Flick’r Group Page.
I expect that you will email me your progress and your questions as you finish the course material and beyond. The course
packet will teach you how to capture the action in sports situations, make better portraits, learn how to emphasize your subject,
create interest, and capture the moments of your family and friends. The course will also teach you what all those crazy
buttons on the camera do and mean!
Your instructor:
I was an avid amatuer for years, shooting an Olympus OM-1, and a Rolleiflex TLR. Later, I did product photography for
about three years, for Morning Sun with an Olympus E10 digital. During that time I started my own business shooting mainly
weddings, portraits and mountain bike photography. I still do my own professional photography, but for the last three
years I have been teaching photography at White River High School.
All digital SLR style cameras are welcome. I shoot Nikon professionally, teach high school students with Canon, and have
experience with Olympus and Lumix. We will emphasize your P, Tv, Av, M exposure modes. (That might be P, S, A, M for some.)
SLR cameras are the ones that have replacable lenses, call me if you have any questions.
What you get:
